Tennis expert and legend Mats Wilander believes Emma Raducanu could be the “comeback player of the year” in 2025. The 2021 US Open champion finished the 2024 season ranked World No. 57, a big improvement from starting the year outside the top 300. Her rise came after undergoing surgeries on both wrists and her ankle in May 2023.

In 2024, Raducanu played 13 ranking tournaments and three Billie Jean King Cup matches, achieving a 21-13 record. Her best result came at Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round. She also made the semi-finals in Nottingham and the quarter-finals in Stuttgart, Eastbourne, Washington, and Seoul.

However, injuries disrupted her season towards the end. Raducanu had to withdraw from five tournaments during the Asian swing, including events in Beijing, Wuhan, Ningbo, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. Despite these setbacks, she remains a strong contender for a remarkable comeback in 2025.

To improve her fitness and avoid further injuries, Raducanu has hired Yutaka Nakamura, a respected trainer who has worked with stars like Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka. With this new addition to her team, she hopes to perform at her best in the upcoming season.

Raducanu’s journey since her 2022 US Open victory has been tough due to injuries. Despite battling foot and back issues, she played in 13 tournaments in 2024 and ended the year ranked World No. 57. Now, she aims to build on her progress and make a strong comeback in 2025.

A recent photo shared by her fitness coach, Yutaka Nakamura, shows Raducanu traveling to Auckland with her team. The image includes Nakamura and her head coach, Nick Cavaday, emphasizing their close bond as they prepare for the season opener.

Raducanu’s return to the ASB Classic marks her third consecutive year playing the event. In previous appearances, she reached the second round but fell short of advancing further. This year, she will share the spotlight with big names like Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, returns to Auckland after eight years, adding excitement to the tournament.
