On a recent episode of his show, Gilbert Arenas shared his thoughts on Ja Morant’s announcement that he would stop dunking in games. Arenas suggested that Morant should have handled the situation differently, suggesting that he should have quietly stopped dunking during games rather than making a public declaration.
Arenas cited the example of Vince Carter, who in 2004, announced his intention to quit dunking. Carter faced significant backlash from fans and the media, and Arenas believes that Ja Morant would have avoided similar criticism by keeping his decision private.
Arenas also noted that fans pay to see players like Morant entertain them with their exceptional abilities, making the decision to stop dunking publicly all the more puzzling.

Ja Morant, known for his electrifying dunks, has made a conscious effort to limit his high-flying exploits this season. In the 12 games he has played, Morant has dunked only three times, and is particularly avoiding the kind of spectacular, over-the-defender dunks that have made him a fan favorite.
Morant’s decision to scale back on his dunking is motivated by a desire to prioritize his health and durability. Morant has struggled with injuries throughout his career.
A recent example was his eight-game absence last month due to a posterior hip subluxation and associated pelvic strains, which he suffered after a midair collision with Los Angeles Lakers center Christian Koloko.
Ja Morant ejected from game following disputed foul call
During a tensed fourth quarter of the game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings, which ended 115-110 on Thursday night, Grizzlies guard Ja Morant was ejected after he picked up a second technical for his reaction to a foul call against him when contesting a fadeaway by Kings veteran DeMar DeRozan. This saw the guard leave the game with six minutes left to play.
Ja Morant was visibly perplexed when a foul was called against him, and his confusion quickly turned to frustration. He reacted by grabbing his head and punching his hand repeatedly, clearly disagreeing with the referee’s decision.
As Morant walked towards the bench, he directed his comments towards the referee, though his words were inaudible. The tension escalated as Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins became animated on the sidelines, with one of his assistants intervening to hold him back.
In a surprising post-game admission, the referee conceded that the foul call made against Ja Morant was incorrect.
