Martina Navratilova has always stated that there is no place for transgender women in women’s sports. She has not been shy to voice that opinion in public, be it at events or on social media.

A recent women’s college volleyball match at San Jose State University became a talking point after a transgender athlete was allowed to compete in the event. Later, a report about the five-set match by sports journalist Scott Ostler caught Navratilova’s attention.

The report stated that several people who attended the volleyball match protested against transgender women being allowed to compete in women’s sports. Navratilova took offense to the choice of words used in the report and called out the writer on social media.

And the irony of the headline- the word HYSTERIA has been always ascribed to women overreacting since we can’t handle our emotions. In any case – @scottostler – happy to talk to you about this, if you’re interested in finding out more. Also- the women’s net is 9 inches lower…why?

One follower then explained how the word ‘hyster’ takes its origin from the Greek ‘uterus’ and that was why ‘hysterical’ has always been ascribed to women. In response, Navratilova stated that the news report ‘reeked’ of misogyny.

It reeks of misogyny.

Martina Navratilova opined

Navratilova always goes out of her way to praise trans athletes if they decide not to meddle with women’s sports. Earlier this year, she praised Nicole Powers after the transgender athlete, who has competed in sports like tennis, skiing, and golf in the women’s category, stated that she would not do it again.
