Matthew Stafford, the Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams QB, is overwhelmed with humbleness to be someone the young quarterbacks can look up to. He remembers being on the opposite side 15 years ago when he faced Brett Favre and Peyton Manning as a rookie.
The Detroit Lions selected Matthew Stafford as first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. After enjoying 12 years with them, even leading them to their first playoff appearance in over a decade in 2011, he joined the Rams. In his first year itself, Stafford and the Rams won the Super Bowl after a fourth-quarter victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
A favorite contender for HOF, Stafford is humbled by being an inspiration to young QBs like Texan passer CJ Stroud and Bears rookie Caleb Williams. He reminisced about how Favre came up to him and said that he’s a fan of him – and he will do the same for these young guys and root for them.
So it is cool. It's humbling that these guys are paying attention and as big of fans as they might be of me, I wish nothing but the best for those guys.Matthew Stafford said after Thursday’s joint practice (H/T: therams.com)
CJ Stroud and Caleb Williams have showered praises for the veteran player on numerous occasions. On the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, CJ said that he is a huge fan of Stafford and perfected his skillset after Stafford.
Caleb Williams, on the other hand, told Kay Adams on the “Up and Adams Show”, that he considers Stafford to be one of the top two QBs in the league. He added that he is upset on the Stafford’s ranking on the NFL Top 100 peer-voted list. Williams, who’s heavily touted to have a breakout season like Stroud, has also admitted that he has patterned after Stafford.
