“He just can’t catch a break or a football” – Chiefs part ways with Kadarius Toney a day after bringing JuJu Smith-Schuster back, fans react
Kansas City Chiefs part ways with Kadarius Toney, Justyn Ross, and Louis Rees-Zammit after they fail to make the 53-man roster.

Kadarius Toney bids adieu to the Kansas City Chiefs a day after the defending ring holders brought back JuJu Smith-Schuster. It was an inevitable decision on the Chiefs’ part and fans are reacting widely about it across social media platforms.
The Chiefs have also parted ways with Justyn Ross, another wide receiver on the roster. Furthermore, the roster cuts saw the departure of the former European rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit. Rees-Zammit making it to the 53-man roster was a distant dream but possible. Team MVP Patrick Mahomes had praised the ex-rugby star’s athletic prowess and agility.
Toney joined the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL mid-season from the New York Giants. He made waves quite remarkably in his first season. In the Super Bowl LVII, he recorded a 65-yard punt return and caught a TD in the fourth quarter to aid the Chiefs’ glory.
The Chiefs expected him to rise up in the ranks in the 2023 season. However, after he underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus during the preseason, nothing was the same. The player widely deteriorated in his skills. Although he made it back to the season opener against Lions, he fumbled badly and lost several winning points.
In a game against the Buffalo Bills, Toney scored a TD which was later nullified, resulting in a loss for the Chiefs. In the following game, Toney deflected another catchable pass, resulting in an interception for the Patriots. This ended up in Toney being an absentee for the remainder of the season. In May, the Chiefs declined to activate his fifth-year option, making him a free agent after 2024 and ultimately released him today.

The Chiefs brought back WR JuJu Smith-Schuster from the New England Patriots. The Chiefs have kept six WRs excluding Smith-Schuster on the roster. Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson have been retained as obvious choices. Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore cling on with “enough” presence on the pre-season and the training camp.
There’s no love between Kadarius Toney and the Chiefs’ fans
Fans have no love lost for Toney as they brutally roasted him on X. He is like a scarlet thread woven into the fabric of their bitter feud. A fan sarcastically claimed that Toney can’t catch a break nor a football.
After multiple fumbles and drops in the past season, fans aren’t sad to see Toney leave the squad despite his historic role. The fans are even calling out Ian Rapoport for naming Toney a talented playmaker and suggesting that he will find a career elsewhere.
He just can’t catch a break…or a football

Talented playmaker? Lmao 🤣

Hope he goes to a team in the same division… I’d like the chiefs odds even better in those games.

What is it with this unprovoked media hype for Kadarius Toney lol
— Ben Esherick (@benesherick) August 27, 2024
how much did his agent pay you to word it this way?
— Ryan Jackson (@Jaxonishere) August 27, 2024
Surely somewhere someone needs dropped balls and lining up offsides and other crucial mistakes that lose games.

This particular X user drew some thoughts from the earlier conspirators revolving Taylor Swift taking shots at Toney in her newest song.
So when Taylor Swift wrote “So when I touch down call the amateurs and cut’em from the team” he knew his time in KC was done

Fans have some insight into what Rapoport meant by a “market elsewhere.” They have been cheekily adding future options for the WR, including McDonald’s and CFL.
by market elsewhere you mean the CFL

McDonalds could probably use his talents. But he might not be able to "catch" the bus on time to get to work.

As Toney’s future remains unknown, the Kansas City Chiefs will soon start the 2024-25 NFL regular season with kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
