The first Monday Night Football of yet another season will see Leonard Floyd and Aaron Rodgers in action. The latter, Rodgers, will return after a season-ending injury year to face his injurer Floyd on the kickoff day.
The veteran QB skimped off the ground on the Week 1 game last year against the Buffalo Bills. A sack from Floyd resulted in a torn Achilles and a finished season. After being released by the Los Angeles Rams, he played one year with the Buffalo Bills. The defender is aware of the threat that Rodgers instills in an opponent even coming off an injury. He visualizes the game to be intense and knows the New York Jets won’t give up without a fight.
Floyd, 31, joined the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year. The 49ers signed Floyd to a two-year, $20 million deal including $12 million in guaranteed money, the Niners biggest acquisition in the off-season. Though he suffered a minor knee injury against the Las Vegas Raiders in the 49ers’ pre-season finale, Floyd would be expected to play in the MNF game.
As he ties up his boots, the defender admitted that he knows how much of a threat Aaron Rodgers can be. He said the team has to bring their ‘A’ game when they face Rodgers as once he gets momentum, it would become difficult to manage the 4-time NFL MVP.
I've done played a lot of football. In Chicago, sometimes we'd have Aaron as a first game. Shoot, man, my scouting report is he's a legendary quarterback and you have to come with your 'A' game, because he's the type where he'll embarrass you. If you give him some momentum, he's going to carry that momentum for the whole game. You just have to be on your Ps and Qs, because he'll score every time if you let him.Leonard Floyd said to the reporters on Sunday (H/T: 49erswebzone)
The 49ers have one of the best defensive ends in the league with Nick Bosa. ESPN analytics puts the DE as the projected third-best pass rusher in the upcoming season. He is projected to make 10.2 sacks. Floyd and Bosa could do some damage and potentially defeat the Jets on Monday.
The Aaron Rodgers and the 49ers rivalry lights up once again
Rodgers has always visualized playing in the league for his cherished team. He recently shared that even amid the trade rumors in 2021, he knew that it would not materialize. Rodgers added that it would have a fated circumstance, but Green Bay Packers would not trade in the same conference (NFC).
Rodgers, grew up in California rooting for the 49ers, who eventually opted to pick Alex Smith over him as the No. 1 Pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He has been 6-3 against the Niners in the regular season but hasn’t bested them ever in the postseason, 0-4.
The MNF action will see the San Francisco 49ers going against the New York Jets, with multiple storylines. In addition to the Rodgers’ rivalry with the Niners and the Floyd-Rodgers matchup, football lovers have Brock Purdy and his ex-roommate Breece Hall playing against each other for the first time.
