It seems that Matt Rempe‘s brief stint with the Hartford Wolf Pack is coming to an end. As per reports, the New York Rangers are seemingly calling back the 22-year-old from their affiliate team. This comes mere days after demoting him.
Following Thursday’s 3-1 loss against the Florida Panthers, the Rangers announced that the team is demoting the youngster. The reason for this demotion was said to be his limited playing time. He hasn’t played as much as he did last time around.
Though the team has not made the news official, the transaction has come across the official AHL transaction page. As per Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today, the team sent down Jake Leschyshyn a few hours after calling him up. This move by the team has left a spot open.
A transaction came across the official AHL page saying the #NYR have recalled Matt Rempe. Still waiting for Rangers to confirm but they did send Leschyshyn down today and open a spot.

In the two games for the AHL side, Rempe managed just two shots on goals. In his absence, the Metropolitan Division side defeated the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.

As per Mercogliano, this move by the team could be done while keeping their next fixture in mind. The Rangers will face the Washington Capitals in a rematch of the first round of the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
In that series, Rempe appeared in every game as the Rangers swept the Capitals 4-0 to advance. The 6-foot-9 Rempe could be seen as a deterrent to Tom Wilson and company.
Social media reacts to reports of Matt Rempe’s promotion back to the NHL
