UFC legends Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier recently talked about the most recent controversial news in MMA. UFC fighter Igor Severino got disqualified because he bit his opponent Andre Lima on his left arm. This happened at UFC Vegas 89 in Las Vegas.
Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen talked about the incident in their recent episode of the Good Guy Bad Guy podcast. Cormier said:
There is no crying in baseball and there's no biting in fighting. Chael we got somebody biting another man, inside the octagon last weekend. I could not believe it.Daniel Cormier via Good Guy Bad Guy
The flyweight contenders were in the second round of their fight when Igor Severino bit the inside of Andre Lima’s left bicep. Lima immediately informed the referee about the bite who stopped the fight after almost three minutes into the second round and disqualified Severino. This has never happened in UFC history before and is a severe violation of the sport’s rules and ethics. Igor Severino’s actions were widely condemned by both fans and officials.
The incident drew significant attention from media outlets and the internet. People started discussing the need for stricter penalties for such unsportsmanlike behavior. Chael Sonnen said that his initial reaction was thinking if Severino thought the bite could help him in the fight. Andre Lima actually felt sorry for Severino after the incident and expressed sympathy for his opponent. Both were new contenders who had just made their entry into the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series.
What did Dana White do about Igor Severino biting Andre Lima?
UFC CEO, Dana White recently declared that Igor Severino will no longer remain in the promotion after he was disqualified for biting André Lima during their fight at UFC Vegas 89. White was disappointed at Severino’s actions.
Unfortunately for Igor Severino, White declared that he would be dropped from the UFC roster immediately. This would be a significant consequence for Severino, as he becomes the first UFC fighter to be disqualified for biting an opponent. Dana White wrote in text messages:
Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters. If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent.

On the other hand, Andre Lima tattooed Severino’s bite on his arm. Seeing this Dana White doubled Lima’s bonus from $25,000 to $50,000. The UFC CEO announced this on his Instagram story. The bonus was cheekily called the “I got bit bonus” by Lima.
