One of the most debated golf topics in recent weeks got a massive update on Monday. The PGA of America approved a $500,000 package for Team USA players – $300,000 for charity and $200,000 as a stipend for the Ryder Cup.
Last month, reports emerged that U.S. players could get compensated for the first time in the tournament’s long history. This development brought out mixed reactions on social media as fans, experts, and former and current players expressed their opinions regarding it.
Recently, a dozen former US Ryder Cup captains wrote a letter to the PGA of America and opposed the talks of directly compensating players in this event. Previously, team USA players would receive $200,000 which they could donate to a charity of their choosing.
Now this amount has increased to $300,000. On top of that, they will take home $200,000 with them after participating in this biennial event from the 2025 edition.
In a statement, the body claimed that no player asked them to get compensated. The PGA of America expressed that the Board of Directors were the ones who voted for the increase of payment.
The board also expressed their gratitude to players and captains who have represented Team USA over the years. As for the European Ryder Cup players, they will continue to not receive a single penny.
🚨💰🇺🇸 JUST IN: It’s official — U.S. Ryder Cup players are set to receive $500,000 payments for their participation in the event, including $300K to a charity of their choice and a $200K stipend.

Disappointed in this. Should be able to play for your country with honor and absolutely no concern whatsoever for $

Pathetic. Just shamefully pathetic.

That's awesome…Charity wins like the PGAT used to do. And the $200k stipend is $100k after taxes, only covers their expenses for the week.

At least we know why tickets are $750/day, and families of 4 will have to spend $3K just to get in the door…

That seems fair

Good! Other than the Masters is the best golf around and they totally deserve it.

Does Patrick Cantlay now have to pay for his own cap?🤔

Sergio Garcia is quite literally paying millions to try and play in the Ryder Cup next year. Meanwhile, the American team has just confirmed they’ll be paid for appearing. If you ever wondered why the Europeans upset the odds so often, there it is. It just means more! 🇪🇺

This is why we lose. The Ryder Cup is bigger than this. If a guy needs paid to get up for this event then he’s the wrong guy for the team. Sad where we’re at here. Euros wouldn’t even think to do this.

The 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup will take place at the Bethpage Course in New York. Judging by the reactions on social media, Team USA could be under more pressure to deliver now. Last time, they had a rough start on Day 1 and despite playing better in the next two days, they were unable to stop their rivals from registering an emphatic win.
