One of the most debated golf topics in recent weeks got a massive update on Monday. The PGA of America approved a $500,000 package for Team USA players – $300,000 for charity and $200,000 as a stipend for the Ryder Cup.

Last month, reports emerged that U.S. players could get compensated for the first time in the tournament’s long history. This development brought out mixed reactions on social media as fans, experts, and former and current players expressed their opinions regarding it.

Recently, a dozen former US Ryder Cup captains wrote a letter to the PGA of America and opposed the talks of directly compensating players in this event. Previously, team USA players would receive $200,000 which they could donate to a charity of their choosing.

Now this amount has increased to $300,000. On top of that, they will take home $200,000 with them after participating in this biennial event from the 2025 edition.

In a statement, the body claimed that no player asked them to get compensated. The PGA of America expressed that the Board of Directors were the ones who voted for the increase of payment.

While no players asked to be compensated, the PGA of America Board of Directors has voted to increase the allocation to the members of the U.S. Ryder Cup team from $200,000 to be directed to charities – a figure unchanged since 1999 – to $500,000, with $300,000 of that to be directed to the charity or charities of the players’ choice. The balance is a stipend.

The board also expressed their gratitude to players and captains who have represented Team USA over the years. As for the European Ryder Cup players, they will continue to not receive a single penny.

The 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup will take place at the Bethpage Course in New York. Judging by the reactions on social media, Team USA could be under more pressure to deliver now. Last time, they had a rough start on Day 1 and despite playing better in the next two days, they were unable to stop their rivals from registering an emphatic win.
