On Tuesday, 15x major champion Tiger Woods held a press conference ahead of the 2024 Hero World Challenge. In this, he gave a grim update regarding his current health.

The 48-year-old once again had a year filled with injuries. Despite taking part in all four major championships, Woods seemed rusty. He finished 60th at the Masters and missed the cut in the other three events. After that, he underwent another back surgery.

Last week Woods expressed his disappointment in missing out on the Hero World Challenge. A year ago, he made his return to golf after a seven-month absence at this event and finished 18th out of 20. In that event, Woods revealed that he intended to play at least one event per month.

When asked about his health and whether Woods had to change this plan due to his recent injury, the 82-time PGA Tour winner provided an unpleasant answer.

I’m not tournament sharp yet. No, I’m still not there. These are 20 of the best players in the world and I’m not sharp enough to compete against them at this level… I didn’t think my back was going to go like it did this year. It was quite painful throughout the end of the year.

The golfer later added that he is just going to rehab and try to give myself a better chance for the 2025 season. Given his current state, questions regarding his appearance at the upcoming PNC Championship have risen. As of now, Woods has not provided any official statement regarding that event.

Tiger Woods reflects on US players potentially getting paid at Ryder Cup

The reports of U.S. players potentially getting paid at the 2025 Ryder Cup have caused a massive stir in the world of golf. While some have welcomed this, some have bashed the U.S. players for even asking about this. Tiger Woods has now shed light on this development as well.

In the press conference of the 2024 Hero World Challenge, the golf great expressed that this was a conversation they had even back in 1999. However, the American golfer claimed that they wanted more money for charity and did not want to get paid. He added that the media turned the words against them.

Well, I would have to say that going back to my playing days, we had the same conversation back in 99, and it was, we didn’t want to get paid. We wanted to give more money to charity. And the media turned it around us, against us, and said, we want to get paid.

The golfer later asked why they could not allocate the money to charities themselves if they made so much money. The 48-year-old further added that it was never about getting paid but how they could allocate funds that would help their sport.

American golfers get charitable gifts of $200,000 which they could donate to any charity of their choosing. On the other hand European golfers do not get paid anything at all.

If the board approves the proposal, Team USA players could get paid $400,000 each.
