The Boxing Day matchup between Chelsea and Fulham did not disappoint, as a late comeback win for the latter shocked audiences worldwide. In a surprising turnaround, Enzo Maresca‘s side fell to the might of Fulham as Rodrigo Muniz‘s winner in the fifth minute of extra time sealed the win.

The result now means that Chelsea‘s title hopes are in peril. However, Maresca has made it a point to stress repeatedly that his side cannot compete with Liverpool at the moment.

With the Blues suffering the third defeat of their season in the League, Liverpool can now ‘run away’ with the title with a few more results in its favor. Chelsea went into the game with a frustrating 0-0 draw to Everton away last Sunday.

With fans expecting a win, Chelsea gave what the fans wanted with an early opener. Star man Cole Palmer gave the home fans reason to rejoice with an impressive finish from the edge of the box past Bernd Leno. However, Chelsea’s firm hold on the game evaporated within minutes as goals from Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz helped Marco Silva‘s men snatch all three points.

It has been a difficult week for Chelsea supporters after failing to win in the last two games in the Premier League. A fan commented that the club has now returned to factory settings, while another mocked Enzo Maresca for jinxing the club’s chances of competing for the League title.

Several fans mocked the manager for repeatedly insisting his side was not in the title race. Many praised Cole Palmer for his composed finish but blamed the rest of his teammates for letting the club down.

The late comeback, for many, felt like the perfect way for Fulham to claim its first-ever win at Stamford Bridge since 1979. With Liverpool currently sitting on a four-point lead and two games in hand, a fan said that Maresca’s men have successfully bottled the Premier League.

Maresca attracted a lot of criticism after the game, especially for not starting Portuguese attacker Joao Felix, despite the club needing a goal in the final minutes. As things stand, Chelsea has 35 points to its name from 18 games played. The club’s next games are against Ipswich Town and then Crystal Palace in 2025.
