When Mike Tyson returned to professional boxing, it was exactly as most pundits had predicted. The former heavyweight champion looked a shell of his former self against Jake Paul in Texas. Despite the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation sanctioning it as a fully pro bout, there were marks on its legitimacy. Now, Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh rips into the Netflix boxing headliner.

For all the hype and hoopla leading up to the unique boxing extravaganza, Paul and Tyson delivered. But only on the lines of what was largely expected. A unanimous decision flowed in Jake Paul’s favor, with the judges scoring the fight 80-72, 79-73, 79-73. Nico Ali Walsh digs into the caricature of crossover boxing or inclusions of such fan-faverite icons in such beatdowns.

Jake Paul is an embarrassment to this sport. If my grandfather was still around, he’d call him out. Absolutely no shame… Love you Mike.

The YouTuber-turned boxer has made a career out of fighting martial arts legends and other influencers. But this fight with Mike Tyson is where Walsh drew the line, even alluding to greats like Muhammad Ali. He said that his grandfather would have put a stop and would have had a call-up after Friday night’s Netflix boxing event from the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

In June, Ali Walsh (10-1 with five KOs) said that he had also turned down a multi-million dollar offer to fight Paul. Muhammad Ali’s grandson takes the easy route by GEA and Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh wanting for more mainstream boxing rather than crossover ‘circus’. Before this, he also billed that “Iron” Mike could win the easy affair against Paul.

It was not a pretty outing for the 58-year-old as Tyson lost a unanimous decision. According to Walsh, the boxing legend has nothing to be ashamed of. For the first two rounds there seemed to be a slight chance that Paul vs. Tyson might be interesting. But after coming out aggressively at the start of round 3, Tyson quickly looked like a 58-year-old long past his days of the 1980s and 90s.

In the seventh and eighth (final) rounds, the 70,000-plus fans in attendance booed the Netflix-themed event. While critical input on Jake Paul continues, he continues to make strides in boxing. However, Nico Ali Walsh had some other ideas about how the technically-lacking Paul would fare in this matchup:

I think Mike Tyson’s just going to embarrass Jake, …Nothing against Jake. He’s not a technically skilled boxer…He doesn’t have experience or the skill to keep up with someone like Mike Tyson. If someone on the street fights Mike Tyson, they have a puncher’s chance, …That’s the beauty of boxing. Everyone has a puncher’s chance.

Ali Walsh gave his take on the Mike Tyson-Paul fight on Tuesday, talking about the 14-ounce gloves instead of the standard 10-ounce gloves. He thought the heavier gloves were a precaution for Tyson. Walsh did however underscore that “Iron” would weather some punches. It’s hard not to get wet while swimming. Now, after the fallout, it’s all but clear that Ali Walsh might be willing to face Paul in the future.
