Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos fought for the IBF lightweight title after years on May 12. The fight was highly anticipated and was supposed to happen in 2022. However, it got postponed because Lomachenko had to defend his country, Ukraine. Hence, he finally made his long-awaited return in Australia. Furthermore, Lomachenko dominated the fight and won with a stunning TKO in the 11th round.
George Kambosos could not land more than 10 shots in any of his best rounds. As such, Lomachenko was able to dictate the distance and pick apart his opponent. When those moments did present themselves, it was easy for Lomachenko to throw a slick combo, cut an angle, and slip out of range.
As the clock ticked down on the second half of the fight, the Ukrainian began to direct more of his punches at the body. It paid off in the 11th round when the Australian staggered back before dropping to a knee. Kambosos managed to beat the referee’s count, but the next couple of exchanges, including two body shots, knocked him down again. At that point, his corner called it quits.
Hence, Lomachenko was able to bounce back after his last loss against Devin Haney, which was a controversial fight. Most who witnessed the fight believed Lomachenko was the winner, including Ryan Garcia. Now, he has become a world champion yet again. However, Lomachenko believes that his illustrious career is coming to an end because of his age.

Both fighters attempted to redeem their losses against Haney in their fight. However, Lomachenko proved that he still has his skills, even though he hasn’t remained as active as Kambosos. Furthermore, the Australian had predicted that he would retire the pound-for-pound boxer. However, during the fight, Lomachenko completely neutralized his attacks by applying pressure with his jabs.
Kambosos kept looking for an opportunity to set up a counterpunch, but the Ukrainian did not allow this. In addition, Lomachenko dominated Kambosos because of his footwork and reflexes. Fans reacted to his stellar performance on social media:
