The boxing world will soon likely witness a unification of the IBF lightweight title. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will compete against the IBF champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko. They are widely considered two of the best boxers of their generation. Gervonta Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko were supposed to fight later this year. However, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has confirmed that a potential fight is indeed in the process. Meanwhile, according to Teofimo Lopez, the negotiations have already concluded.
Gervonta Davis’s last fight was against Frank Martin which took place just a few weeks ago. They headlined the main event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA. Gervonta Davis successfully defended his WBA lightweight world championship against Martin and put him out in the eighth round.
Meanwhile, Vasiliy Lomachenko fought for the IBF title against Australian boxer, George Kambosos. The fight lasted eleven rounds before the Ukrainian took him out and became the champion. The world was able to witness a technical masterclass from ‘Loma’ as he turned back the time and dismantled Kambosos.
‘Tank’ was asked about his predictions for his potential fight against Lomachenko after he beat Frank Martin. The 30-0 boxer predicted that it was going to be “a** whooping time.” This is not a sudden matchup between the two boxers. The two were expected to clash for the past seven years but it never came to fruition up until now.
Gervonta Davis’s coach talks about the fight with Vasiliy Lomachenko
According to ‘Tank’s co-trainer Kenny Ellis, the internet has recently seen an influx of Vasiliy Lomachenko highlight videos on YouTube. Ellis took to social media to address these. He questioned if it were an attempt to intimidate the WBA champion and his team ahead of the potential title fight this November.
He has taken it upon himself to analyze the style of the Ukrainian boxer and share it on social media. Both boxers have their own style of fighting. Lomachenko is not afraid to take the fight to the distance. Moreover, ‘Loma’ is the most technically sound fighter on the planet. Meanwhile, the American boxer is an astute knockout artist who has yet to lose a fight. According to Kenny Ellis, the Ukranian boxer would not see the twelfth round.
Ellis has analyzed Lomachenko’s fighting style, and he condescendingly called the Ukranian a “great amateur boxer.” It will be interesting to see how this fight between boxing’s two top contenders ends in the end. Will Gervonta Davis lose his first professional boxing match? Will Vasiliy Lomachenko become the new unified lightweight champion?
