For the remainder of 2024, the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko fight is now off the table. If the fight had gone ahead, it would have occurred in November. Steve Kim reports that Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Kimas, said that Loma does not want to fight this year. He’s just “not in the mood” to fight, he said, not providing a pipeline.

According to ESPN Boxing Insider Mike Coppinger, IBF Lightweight Champion Lomachenko is taking a sabbatical. Tank’s WBA and Lomachenko’s IBF lightweight title straps would have been on the line. Gervonta Davis, the 135-pound WBA titleholder, will need to look elsewhere for a matchup. ‘Tank’ Davis’ coach Kenny Ellis lambasted Vasiliy Lomachenko for rejecting the super fight.

Loma has speculated on a timeout for a while now. With what Klimas recently said, some fans feel that Tank Davis’ interest in a fight with Lomachenko is because he is now 36 years old and is showing signs of age. In other words, Gervonta and his team have sniffed out easy prey. After his eighth-round KO win over Frank “The Ghost” Martin, Gervonta Davis wants to keep the pace going.

People forget all the camp-ducking started with Camp Davis and his contentious running with Floyd Mayweather. Pitbull Cruz will fight Rayo Valenzuela on August 3. As such, Tank rematching Cruz in November looks likely. ‘Tank’ does have a few rivalries and callouts going on elsewhere. For now, though, it’s a waiting game.

Who could Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fight next?

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz could be one after Vasily Lomachenko’s fate is up in the air. He will defend his WBA lightweight title against Rayo Valenzuela on August 3. If Cruz were to get the fight with Tank, it would be a rematch of their clash in the year 2021. Cruz has had a bit of a tempered running in recent times.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) has campaigned for the fight with Tank. Stevenson isn’t popular and has a rep for having a dull, no-offense style. Hardcore fans want this match finally, but the casuals might not. Stevenson is now a free agent and might work it out with Matchroom Boxing.

Ryan Garcia also remains an interesting option and probably the biggest “money fight” rematch from 2023. Davis himself was up for it as well. However, ‘King Ry’ just had to go and get himself a year of NYSAC-imposed ban and out of WBC!

William Zepeda ranks #1 in lightweight by all four sanctioning bodies, making him the best option to attract both casual and hardcore boxing fans. He is undefeated and does not have a next billing. Zepada consequently has the most interesting style out of all the options. But it’s a risky fight for ‘Tank’ against a guy who isn’t vastly popular with casual boxing fans. As such, it remains to be seen who he fights next.
