Even though New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen knew Daniel Jones was close to full recovery from his ACL tear, he still had plans to go for a quarterback in the draft. It was a stalemate between Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy.

The Giants held the 6th pick in the draft with Caleb Williams off the board even before the bidding began. So, Schoen created a short list of players whom he would target. A recent Hard Knocks video showed him working hard at his office.

Schoen’s son Carson, who is a quarterback for his school football team advised his dad to draft LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

You only get this job once. Might as well try to win.
Carson told Joe Schoen

Carson’s sister and Schoen’s eldest daughter, Sydney, chimed in with her suggestion. She wanted her dad to go for CFP Champion JJ McCarthy. Carson came back with a snarky reply.

All the girls want JJ McCarthy because he’s good-looking. Look at him.
Carson retorted

Eventually, the Giants couldn’t get their hands on either Daniels, who joined Washington, or McCarthy, who went to Minnesota. Schoen ended up taking the next best option and decided to provide Daniel Jones with more options. He took LSU Tigers wide receiver Malik Nabers—2nd receiver in the Top 10 behind Ohio States Marvin Harrison Jr. (Arizona Cardinals).

Joe Schoen updated on Daniel Jones’ chances

The Giants began their training camp this week, and unlike other teams, they don’t have any holdouts. Moreover, the good news is the return of Daniel Jones to practice.

Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll spoke in length about Jones’ recovery and their approach to getting him up to speed. Following their disaster last season, the Giants, especially Jones, faced immense criticism because of his inflated $160 million contract.

Daboll backed his QB 1 for keeping the outside noise away from affecting his confidence.

Of all the guys on the team, he does the best job tuning out the noise. He’s wired for the position. He’s a great teammate, he’s a leader, and I’m excited about how things can go this year if he can stay healthy.
Brian Daboll said about Daniel Jones

They want to improve upon the 2023 results but lost a key cog in Saquon Barkley to rivals Philadelphia. They can bank on Nabers to be that missing piece for Jones to record a comeback year. However, USA Today Sports didn’t show much faith in their prediction, with the Giants finishing 4-13.
