On the latest episode of SmackDown, Naomi stepped in to replace the injured Jade Cargill as Bianca Belair‘s tag team partner. The duo defended the Women’s Tag Team Titles against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae in the main event. Following a back-and-forth encounter, Naomi picked up the win for her team after pinning LeRae. As such, she has replaced Cargill as one-half of the current Tag Team Champions alongside Belair.
Speaking on SmackDown LowDown, Naomi described this moment as a ‘full circle’ for herself. Despite the circumstances under which she is champion again, she doesn’t mind doing it for both Cargill and Belair. The 37-year-old star seemed thrilled to defend the titles alongside one of her best friends. Naomi’s friendship with The EST has led to them teaming up on several occasions, even way before last Friday.
The former TNA Knockouts Champion, along with Belair and Cargill, were termed the ‘Big 3’ going into WrestleMania. At the Showcase of Immortals, the trio teamed together for the first time to defeat Damage CTRL in six-woman tag team action.
In the subsequent months, Naomi shifted focus to singles gold. Meanwhile, Cargill and Belair won the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Backlash. The Big 3 did reunite for a few matches on TV. In fact, they were set to team together at Survivor Series inside the WarGames structure.
A week before the show, however, Jade Cargill suffered an injury following a brutal backstage attack. As a result, Bayley replaced Cargill, as the latter’s status has remained uncertain since the assault. Before SmackDown GM Nick Aldis could strip Belair of the titles, Naomi offered to replace her friend.
Fans continue to suspect Naomi amid Jade Cargill mystery attack storyline
It has been a month since Jade Cargill was ambushed in the parking lot. However, there has been no sign as to who laid out and sidelined the former AEW wrestler. Over the past few weeks, Bianca Belair has tried to solve the mystery on her own, approaching some of her rivals backstage.
The likes of Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton have denied their involvement. Similarly, Nick Aldis cleared Piper Niven weeks ago, stating that she was in Gorilla at the time of the attack. Therefore, fans have suspected someone who has benefited from Cargill’s attack, Naomi.
Although the reasons have varied online, many do believe that it was indeed the former Women’s Champion who brutalized Cargill. Naomi did refute any claims of her involvement, but fans have still continued to suspect her. Regardless, this is seemingly leading to a major WrestleMania program involving The Big 3.
