In the main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody Rhodes took on his former friend, Kevin Owens. With the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line, a shenanigans-filled battle concluded with Rhodes emerging victorious. Although the show ended for the viewers at home, the live audience saw Owens lay a beatdown on Rhodes off-air. The Prizefighter delivered the banned ‘Package Piledriver’ on Rhodes in the middle of the ring.
Officials and referees swarmed the ring to separate KO, but the damage had already been done. As a result of this attack, medical personnel stretchered Rhodes out of the arena. The American Nightmare was taken to a local hospital, as a concerned Triple H looked on. Almost 24 hours after the attack, WWE provided an update on Rhodes. The company revealed via social media that Rhodes has suffered an axial compression of the cervical spine and a cervical strain with spasm.
WWE did not provide further details regarding how long Rhodes would be out of action. However, it is safe to say that the 39-year-old star will miss weeks of programming. Speaking of the WWE CCO, he didn’t take too kindly to Owens’ brutal attack on the top star. Hunter got into a heated physical altercation with the former Universal Champion on the aisle that went viral online.

This wasn’t the first time Kevin Owens has crossed the line. A month ago, KO sidelined Randy Orton with a neck injury after hitting the legend with the banned Piledriver move. Orton has yet to return or recover from the injury. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the upper WWE management is not happy with Owens’ actions. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what transpires next in this enthralling storyline.
Kevin Owens claims ownership over Winged Eagle WWE Championship
During the chaotic main event at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Kevin Owens gained a visual pinfall win over Cody Rhodes. In addition to that, two referees were bumped, which affected the final result. As such, Owens took to X following the major turn of events at the show to send a message.
The Prizefighter posted an image of himself with the Winged Eagle WWE Title. Moreover, Owens claimed that the championship was now his. The iconic version of the belt made its return for one night only after Triple H gifted it to Rhodes prior to the event.

However, it seems that fans are going to see a lot more of the title in the foreseeable future. KO believes that he is now the new WWE Champion. In the coming weeks, a storyline involving Owens defending the championship will most likely be a main feature on SmackDown.
