The road to WrestleMania will kick in early this time around, as mentioned by Triple H during the Raw on Netflix kickoff show. And what kind of WrestleMania would it be without any pre-season drama? That said, WWE is planning to put on a match between Roman Reigns and CM Punk at The Showcase of the Immortals. Per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, it has been discussed internally.
The report noted that it wasn’t on the cards until about a couple of weeks ago. As of then, the planned direction for both superstars was different, none of which included The Rock. A point not to sleep on is that if The Great One informs WWE about his involvement at WrestleMania, much of the card would change, including Punk vs. Reigns.
WrestleVotes added that those backstage in WWE were moved after taking into account the earth-shattering social media views Punk and Reigns pulled off at Survivor Series: Wargames. The clip of The OTC blocking the former AEW star’s entry into the match currently stands at over 126 million views on Instagram. The most important piece of the puzzle is the favor that Paul Heyman owes to Punk.
WWE has continued teasing it on television for the past few weeks. Even after exiting the Wargames match victorious, The Best in the World reminded Heyman of the favor that he’ll ask for when needed. It turns out that The Second City Saint might use his former manager as a ploy to acquiesce a WrestleMania main event out of Roman.
Punk has had a career-long ambition of closing out WWE’s biggest show of the calendar year. It couldn’t happen in 2024 owing to an injury. But there’s no excuse to deprive the 46-year-old of that distinction now.

Ever since the story broke, the WWE fans have been chatting about it all day long on social media. On X, one fan termed the potential Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk match one for the ages.
However, there are some sad faces too who were hoping that they’d finally get to see The OTC lock horns with his cousin, The Rock, at WrestleMania 41. Some pessimism is being spewed in circles that Rock vs. Reigns would remain a dream forever.
Pitches were even made for Paul Heyman to be locked up inside a shark cage for Reigns vs. Punk. One of the prime woes that some people are currently highlighting is Seth Rollins. At one point, he was penciled into battle with his longtime rival Punk at WrestleMania. But that has now been moved to the Netflix premiere of Raw.
