The 2024 F1 driver’s championship contenders Lando Norris and Max Verstappen have been at each other’s throats during the latter part of the season. The duo has had quite a few on-track clashes and keeping this in view, Ex-F1 driver David Coulthard has come up with a strong remark.
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen most recently locked horns at the Mexican Grand Prix. Moreover, for the latter’s reckless moves, he was even smacked with a 20-second penalty.
Verstappen has always been an aggressive driver and David Coulthard wants Norris to also match the reigning world champion.
But at a certain point he’s got to go: Max, you think I’m going to leave the door open and you can send the car? Well, actually, the door’s closed – and if we crash, we crash. I think Lando is just that one step away from fully understanding how to race his competitors.

Looking at the reaction of the experienced Brit, he has left no stone unturned in urging Norris to beat Verstappen at his own game. However, he has also acknowledged that the McLaren driver still has a thing or two to learn when it comes to fighting on track.
Kevin Magnussen deems FIA’s stance around on-track racing as ‘messy’
While Coulthard has urged Norris to race strongly against Verstappen, the Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen has come up with a take around the messy rules. The Dane feels there are quite a few loopholes in the current guidelines for on-track racing.
I think it’s pretty messy, the way things are at the moment. I think the FIA is aware of that and looking to make changes. They can see that it’s not great at the moment. There’s too much room to exploit these guidelines. They need to rethink it a little bit, go back to basics.

Norris and Verstappen have lashed out quite a few radio rants this year following their racing antics. Moreover, they have often called for penalties or the swap of positions which has led to a major debate within the paddock regarding the racing rules.
Kevin Magnussen himself is around the very top when it comes to amassing penalties this year. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, it will be in the best interest of the sport if the FIA manages to make solid changes in its guidelines ahead of the 2025 F1 season. Next year’s campaign is being seen as one of the most competitive by the esteemed personalities as well as the pundits of the sport.
