Audi has started the process for the Formula 1 entry in the 2026 season in full-swing mode. The German carmaker has already appointed the team leader, principal, and one of the drivers for the team. Hence, Audi’s highly promising prospects in the sport look more like a reality now. However, the Ex-F1 team owner, Eddie Jordan slammed the team’s ‘wrong’ methods for an entry on the grid.
The German carmaker recently appointed Mattia Binotto as the project’s leader with Jonathan Wheatley as the principal. Additionally, Nico Hulkenberg will drive for the team from the coming season onwards before Audi’s arrival. However, Eddie Jordan didn’t hesitate to point out the issues with the team’s dream to work from a factory back in Switzerland.
To build a car, to run it out of Switzerland, with manufacturing, it’s a big, big, big ask. When did you last see a Swiss or a German [based] team win a world title?Eddie Jordan via Formula for Success podcast
Audi’s factory based in Switzerland meant that the factory could give them a timeframe before starting the work. However, basing the manufacturing in the UK meant that the team could have materials ready quickly. Hence, this was the major ‘fundamental’ mistake that the German carmaker was committing before deeming a Formula 1 entry.
In Switzerland they will give you a timeline of maybe needing four days, four weeks, four months and there’s nothing you can do. Whereas if you’re in the UK, you would say, ‘If you don’t do this, you just don’t get any more work. So that’s the philosophy that there is a racing culture. And I think what Audi are doing is fundamentally wrong.Eddie Jordan added
Eddie Jordan revealed the ‘big embarrassment’ for Sauber in the 2024 season
Audi would enter Formula 1 by completely acquiring and rebranding Sauber. However, the Swiss constructor has faced massive blunders in the 2024 season.
Eddie Jordan didn’t hesitate to point out that scoring zero points in the past 14 races was a ‘big embarrassment. As a result, the Irishman was ‘disappointed’ by the constructor’s downfall in this season.
But [what] he has failed to do even this year, which must be a big embarrassment for him, is that they are the only team without a point. And having said that, they are absolutely last. And that’s no great joy and I’m disappointed for them.Eddie Jordan noted
Sauber will have to continue to upgrade their chassis and score points to attract better drivers to the team. There is still one vacant seat left on the team for the coming season. Hence, the Swiss-based constructor will have to keep an eye out for the best available driver on the grid.
