Sebastian Vettel the four-time F1 world champion, has been away from the limelight since retiring in 2022. He was heavily linked with the Mercedes seat during the initial part of the ongoing campaign and while that seat’s been filled, Vettel is now being seen by many as the perfect option for Sauber (Audi) for 2025.
In line with this, the 2016 F1 world champion Nico Rosberg, has recently backed Sebastian Vettel to join Nico Hulkenberg in Audi’s F1 project. Rosberg genuinely believes the 37-year-old would be a great fit in the Mattia Binotto-led project.
Moreover, Vettel and Binotto have a very healthy relationship from their time at Ferrari.
I would take Sebastian Vettel for Audi - Sebastian has to go in. Why not? With Nico Hulkenberg, they know exactly what they would have there: a great driver who is really driving great right at the moment and Sebastian would come back.Nico Rosberg via Sky Germany
Looking at the reaction of Rosberg, it seems he is extremely confident about Vettel making a strong impression with Audi. The German carmaker will officially enter F1 under its branding from 2026 onwards and for next year, it will run under the Sauber name only.
Sebastian Vettel will require ‘enough kilometers’ ahead of F1 return
While Nico Rosberg views Sebastian Vettel as the perfect candidate for the Audi (Sauber) seat, he also feels the latter will require lots of running ahead of a return. Vettel has driven some old F1 cars since retiring but it comes nowhere in comparison to the beasts in the ground-effect era.
You would have to make sure that he drives enough kilometres somewhere, and that would be a great thing, I think.Nico Rosberg via the same interview
Vettel is one of the best drivers to ever step foot into the world of F1. Being a four-time world champion, he has immense pedigree in the sport and is seen by many young talents as a huge inspiration.
Moreover, he has an extremely loyal fan base all over the globe who’ve been dying to see him race in F1 again. If Audi certainly banks on Vettel for 2025, it will be a huge moment for the latter as well as for the German team, as they’ll arrive on the grid with a huge name in their car.
