“I missed my chance,” Iyo Sky expresses DISAPPOINTMENT after losing out on major chance to become champion on Raw

Even though Iyo Sky did impress as usual, she couldn't advance into the grand finale of the Women's Intercontinental title tournament on Raw.

In one of the major highlights of this week’s Raw, Iyo Sky faced Lyra Valkyria in the semifinals of the ongoing tournament to crown the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. There was little to no cynicism about their in-ring chemistry. Even if there was any, these ladies put that to rest by dishing out a clinic.

Even though the in-ring action was top-notch, the ending did catch some off guard. After Sky landed face-first on the mat as Lyra dodged an over-the-moonsault, the latter rolled Sky up for the win. Expressing disappointment at the loss, the Japanese grappler took to X. She was brimming with gratitude for her fans, who kept standing by her side through thick and thin.

That look of disbelief on Valkyria’s face when she pinned Iyo’s shoulders to the mat said it all. She’ll now take on Dakota Kai in the finals on the January 13 edition of Raw. Had Iyo won, she’d have gone toe-to-toe with her Damage CTRL sister, Kai.

Unfortunately I missed my chance to become the new champion. But I did my best in all my matches in 2024. I want to say, thank you all!!

However, it was not meant to be that way. As things stand, Lyra and Dakota have an opportunity of a lifetime in two weeks time. Whoever ends up being the better woman that night will go down in history in golden letters. Sky wasn’t originally in the tournament, but Kairi Sane was.

The latter was taken out by Pure Fusion Collective in an ambush that prevented Sane from competing. Iyo replaced her ally last week but stumbled in the penultimate round. Nonetheless, what a year it was for her. She was the women’s champion heading into WrestleMania XL. Even though she lost to Bayley, they put on a show to remember.

Is Iyo Sky primed for WrestleMania glory in 2025?

As the new year sets in, a myriad of opportunities are awaiting Iyo Sky if one looks from her perspective. At the moment, her prime focus would be to win the 2025 women’s Royal Rumble match. Needless to say, The Genius of the Sky is indeed one of the top picks to outlast 29 other women.

If she does it, the Kamakura-born wrestler would be subject to choosing a champion of her choice to battle at WrestleMania 41. Next week, Rhea Ripley is expected to regain the women’s world title from Liv Morgan on the Netflix premiere of Raw.

That would increase the chances of Mami walking into Mania with gold tied around her waist. Rhea did state in an interview that she’d like to face Iyo at The Show of Shows instead of stretching out her differences with Morgan.
