Williams Racing team principal James Vowles has shown faith in his team to fight for the title in the future. The Grove-based team has signed Spanish driver Carlos Sainz to partner alongside Alex Albon from 2025 onwards.

Williams was amongst the most successful teams in Formula 1 until a few decades ago. The revered team has since lost its stature in the modern era, failing to perform and win races. However, with the arrival of new regulations in 2026, the team is hoping to make a comeback in the upcoming years.

James Vowles has backed the new partnership of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon to bring glory back to the team. He is seeking to leverage the most out of the knowledge of the two drivers who have previously raced for top teams.

What it means is we have the best possibility of creating the platform for them where we can move up to start fighting for championships. Now, have no doubt, when you’re fighting for a championship […] it is hard to maintain as a structure. But I think I have the two drivers where it’s entirely possible to maintain.

Williams has collectively secured only 16 points so far this season. It will now set its sights on a massive rebuild within the team in order to elevate its chances in the coming years.

James Vowles admits having no other option if Carlos Sainz rejected Williams offer

Carlos Sainz was one of the most sought-after drivers after news came of his impending departure from Ferrari. He was rumored to have received offers from several teams, like Audi and Mercedes, for the coming season.

Sainz was also approached by Williams Racing, which was determined to secure his services. James Vowles has stated that he put all his eggs in one basket for the 2025 season and beyond.

 I was only speaking to Carlos and his family back then — no one else. And pretty much the whole process that was the only individual I was talking to as well.

Sainz has stated his delight and excitement in joining a team that will nurture him as an individual. The 32-year-old will now look to live up to the expectations when he makes is Williams debut in Australia next year.
