Argentine officials set to meet Liberty Media for F1 return after Franco Colapinto’s debut

Franco Colapinto joined the F1 grid after being called up by Williams Racing mid-season to replace the underperforming Logan Sargeant. Since then, the Argentine driver has garnered a massive fan following and is reckoned an idol within the South American nation. To capitalize on this opportunity and get Colapinto a home Grand Prix, reports suggest that Argentine officials would meet with FOM officials to get the Argentine GP back on the calendar.
The last time the Argentine Grand Prix took place was back in 1998. The race was hosted in the capital of the nation in Buenos Aires at Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez. It is a 4.2-kilometer racetrack that features subtle elevation changes. The track has hosted some stellar races back in the day.
On the other hand, as reported by Soymotor, the 90’s racetrack could make a comeback on the F1 calendar. Moreover, Argentine officials are scheduled to hold a meeting with F1 on 1st November, at the Brazillian GP weekend to further discuss the intricacies of bringing the sport back to the South American nation.
While getting a race in Argentina would be a dream come true for Franco Colapinto, the 21-year-old currently does not have a seat on the grid for the next season. Thus, it remains skeptical whether the Williams driver would be able to benefit from the Argentine GP returning as he might be on the sidelines when the race finally makes a return.

Despite him not having a race seat for next year, Colapinto has been driving extremely well this season. Moreover, in four race starts, the Argentine driver has already accumulated five points, five times as many points as the driver he replaced just a few races ago.
Subsequently, when the 21-year-old had an impressive outing in Austin, he was pretty satisfied with his performance.
I think more than the point, I’m happy for the pace we had and how strong we were in the race. After a very tough Saturday for us, we bounced back and showed the pace we had and we were one of the strongest in the midfield.

On the other hand, his teammate Alex Albon had a torrid weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. The Thai-British driver finished both Sprint and the Grand Prix in the bottom five. Thus, Colapinto has gotten up to groove with the FW43 quite quickly, as the Argentine has been bringing home points almost every race weekend.
