Liam Lawson and Alex Albon were teammates back in 2021 while they were racing Ferrari GT3 cars in DTM. Albon received the opportunity to replace Pierre Gasly mid-way through the 2020 season in Formula 1 at Red Bull. Albon further raced in 2021 but was sacked from the team mid-way and had to return to his DTM duties.
Liam Lawson was curious back then about how racing at one of the best teams in Formula 1 felt like. Lawson only received the opportunity to race in Formula 1 in the 2023 season for a few races after replacing Ricciardo. Hence, back then, the Kiwi driver used to pester Alex Albon and ask him questions about his experiences racing for Red Bull.
Lawson recalled that Albon probably got sick of the former due to the constant questions regarding racing with Red Bull. The 22-year-old pointed out that he used to ask him a lot of questions about Red Bull and what it was like in a Formula 1 team and the fastest single-seater chassis.
Liam Lawson will contact Alex Albon ‘again’ following his entry to Red Bull in 2025
Liam Lawson received the opportunity to replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull and race for a full season for the first time in his life. As a result, the 22-year-old believed that he would probably contact Albon again if need be. The reason for this was that all these experiences were new to Lawson as he will need more information from an experienced person.
Red Bull still has multiple issues to deal with before starting the 2025 season. The team is already facing problems due to the massive personnel change among the engineers. Hence, Lawson will have to work extremely hard to impress the leaders of the team and continue racing for them.
