Formula 1 is back from the summer break. The F1 paddock kicks off the second half of the season with the Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The iconic Dutch circuit is a challenging track. Williams’ Logan Sargeant was forced to retire from the final practice session after a heavy impact with the barriers.
During FP3, Logan Sargeant was out on the intermediate tires due to the wet conditions. The American driver went through turn 5, on to the high banking when he seemed to have lost control of the car altogether. The Williams FW46 spun sideways and the car collided right into the barriers.
Sargeant’s car bounced back onto the track after making contact with the wall. Subsequently, smoke appeared from the car, before the rear end erupted in flames. Logan Sargeant jumped out of the car as soon as he was informed about the car being on fire. Thankfully, the American driver was not harmed from the incident.

James Vowles explains Logan Sargeant’s horrific crash
Williams team boss James Vowles gave an update on Sargeant shortly after the incident. The Briton revealed that Logan Sargeant had told the team that he was okay straightaway. Vowles admitted that he is yet to discuss the collison with the American driver as he was sent to the medical center. Williams does have enough spares to fix the car for the race. Although, it is unclear if Sargeant can take part in Qualifying.
He jumped on the radio and said, âIâm okay.' Then, he had to jump out because the car was on fire, so I didnât get an opportunity to talk to him. Heâs down at the medical center at the moment, Iâve just had a nod that heâs okay. So weâll bring him back up here and have a chat.James Vowles told Sky Sports F1
Certainly, Logan Sargeant has faced a major setback this weekend. The American driver must bounce back and avoid making another mistake on Sunday as he tries to find a seat for the 2025 season. Fans would hope that Sargeant can have a decent race after the devastating incident in free practice.
