The Williams Formula 1 team has finally pulled the plug on Logan Sargeant. His costly crash at the Dutch GP was the final nail in the coffin and he has now been replaced by a 21-year-old Argentine driver, Franco Colapinto.
While the recent development is extremely harsh on Logan Sargeant, Alex Albon has come forward to share his take on the development. Albon has acknowledged that the decision is extremely tough on Sargeant but has also, wished him the best of luck.
The American driver competed in 36 Grand Prix for the Grove-based team and managed to amass only a single point.
I know firsthand how brutal this sport can be & it’s tough to see Logan leave the team mid-season. You gave it your all brother and it’s been a pleasure being teammates with you. I know whatever you do next, you’ll be awesome.Alex Albon via his Instagram handle
Albon during his time with Red Bull, went through something similar and thus, can sympathize with Sargeant on his brutal sacking. Williams boss James Vowles also acknowledged after the announcement, that the decision was extremely tough on the American.
Franco Colapinto feels extremely ‘honored’ to drive for Williams F1
While several esteemed personalities from the world of F1 have come forward to support Sargeant, Franco Colapinto is looking forward to driving for Williams. The latter is a member of the Williams Driving Academy and he even made his F1 debut during this year’s FP1 session at the British GP.
Colapinto is set to become the 49th Grand Prix driver for Williams Racing.
It is an honor to be making my Formula 1 debut with Williams – this is what dreams are made of. The team has such amazing history and a mission to get back to the front which I can’t wait to be part of. Coming into F1 mid-season will be an enormous learning curve but I am up for the challenge, and I’m fully focused on working as hard as I can with Alex and the team to make it a success.Franco Colapinto via Williams Racing
The 2024 F1 season has nine races remaining on the calendar. Keeping this in view, Colapinto will have a decent number of outings in the Williams challenger. Moreover, it will immensely help him in getting used to the extreme demands of the pinnacle of motor racing. Alex Albon will be required to help the young lad as much as possible from Monza onwards.
