Red Bull is known for making last-minute driver changes. Rumors over Sergio Perez‘s future at the team are not unusual. However, RB’s Yuki Tsunoda is more often than not ignored in the search for a new teammate for Max Verstappen.
The Japanese driver recalled that when Daniel Ricciardo joined RB (then AlphaTauri) midway through 2023, many claimed that the Australian could partner Verstappen soon. But when Liam Lawson replaced Ricciardo, the Kiwi driver became the next potential teammate of Max Verstappen.
On both occasions, Yuki Tsunoda was seemingly not in consideration. The 24-year-old confessed that this seemed to have become the norm within the Red Bull family. It is believed that Tsunoda’s strong ties to Honda might have played a role in this regard. As the Japanese manufacturer joins forces with Aston Martin in 2026.
Yuki Tsunoda declares he deserves to be Max Verstapppen’s teammate
Tsunoda has substantially improved as a driver since making his debut in 2021. The 24-year-old’s performance led to the sacking of Nyck de Vries and Daniel Ricciardo. Thus, the Japanese driver claimed that he ‘100%’ deserved to be promoted to Red Bull Racing to partner Max Verstappen. However, he acknowledged that it all depended on the team.
Certainly, Yuki Tsunoda is not happy with his situation within the Red Bull family. The Japanese driver might soon be in contact with rival teams for his future. Such a move could force Milton Keynes to make a decision on Tsunoda’s connection with the Austrian giant.
