Red Bull technical advisor Helmut Marko has shared his thoughts on VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda‘s move to the senior team. Tsunoda has been the longest-serving junior driver in the history of the Milton Keynes-based team.

Yuki Tsunoda has had a mixed season so far. Despite outpacing his teammates, the Japanese has not been consistent in his efforts.

Tsunoda secured P9 at the Las Vegas GP and was P7 in Interlagos before that. He could have finished higher up at the Brazilian GP if not for some mistakes during the race.

Helmut Marko has stated that Tsunoda has the speed to become a Red Bull driver but lacks stability and continuity. The 81-year-old then emphasized the need for a reliable driver with stable qualities to be given the preferred seat.

He has now delivered two very good races in Brazil and Las Vegas. Unfortunately, he made two stupid mistakes in Brazil before that. Yuki has the speed, but he lacks continuity and stability. But when it works for him, it works very well.

Helmut Marko told Kleine Zeitung

Heading into the final races of 2024, a challenge awaits Tsunoda. His priorities must lie in helping his team attain a better finish in the constructors’ championship. However, his main aim will be to perform well while making fewer mistakes personally as well.

Yuki Tsunoda is unable to reason the basis for not being in the mix for Red Bull seat

Yuki Tsunoda has been longing for a promotion to Red Bull for a very long time. Rumors have come through indicating a move for the Japanese, but no concrete decision has been made in his favor so far.

The 24-year-old feels that his efforts have been enough to promote him to the main team. He said that he was unsure why the management was not considering him as an option to partner with Max Verstappen.

I mean, still one of the drivers going to drive the championship, the champion. The team has had success for quite a long time. What they’re doing is, I guess, not a bad thing, but it’s not; it doesn’t really make sense for me that I didn’t get in the mix much so far. Yeah. I don’t know much from myself; at least I can’t find much reason that they aren’t really talking about me so far. But let’s see.

Tsunoda has also claimed that a driver is usually promoted if he continues to outperform his teammate for a prolonged period. Having achieved that while racing beside Daniel Ricciardo, the Japanese can now only wait for a decision in his favor.
