Max Verstappen faced severe troubles in performance at the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP. The Dutchman was off to a disappointing start on the weekend after struggling to compete for the pole position. Moreover, Verstappen was involved in a first-lap collision with Oscar Piastri which took a huge hit at his running.
The Abu Dhabi GP race start witnessed a turn-1 incident between Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. The McLaren driver was sent off the track and lost multiple positions following the incident. As a result, Piastri was visibly upset from the incident as he also mentioned it on the team radio.
Verstappen, however, made up with Piastri and reportedly apologized to the latter. The Dutchman reckoned that he apologized to the Aussie and this was very important. The 27-year-old claimed that he had ‘nothing to lose’ and just took the plunge down the inside line. The championship winner accepted that this wasn’t a good situation for Piastri and apologized due to them being friends.

Max Verstappen ‘happy’ with 2024 season coming to an end
The 2024 season was extremely challenging for Max Verstappen in terms of performance despite him winning his fourth drivers’ title. The Dutchman had hilariously joked that he would put the RB20 chassis in a museum after the culmination of the season. Hence, after a mediocre outing in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen highlighted that he was happy that the campaign was finally over.
Red Bull’s performance slump in 2024 caused them to dwindle down to P3 in the constructors’ championship. Sergio Perez‘s disastrous race pace was evident at the Abu Dhabi GP as well. Hence, the team is reportedly set to axe the Mexican driver and allow some young talent to enter the team. 2025 will be exciting to witness for Milton Keynes as massive changes are in order.
