Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was at fault for colliding with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri during the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP. Verstappen was since given a 10-second penalty for his deeds at the Yas Marina circuit on Sunday.
Max Verstappen now stands on eight penalty points on his super license as a cumulation of his offenses. He tried to make a move around the inside of Oscar Piastri but crashed into the latter due to an insufficient gap. The 27-year-old was enraged with the decision of the FIA to grant him a 10-second penalty.
Verstappen thereafter took a ruthless dig at the FIA officials, joking that he would purposely notch 12 total penalty points next year. The Dutchman is currently expecting a baby with his partner in 2025. He therefore claims that the race ban will be helpful for him as a paternity leave in the coming year.
Max Verstappen's reaction to now having 8 penalty points on his license ahead of the 2025 season:

"Maybe I'll make sure I get to 12 points when the baby is born. Then I can go on paternity leave."

The 27-year-old was crowned as the champion of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Las Vegas GP a few weeks back. He will now seek to enjoy a well-earned retreat before making a return to the racetrack in March 2025.
F1 pundit bashes Max Verstappen for irrational radio message in Abu Dhabi GP
SkySports F1 commentator David Croft did not hold back against Max Verstappen during the Abu Dhabi GP. Verstappen was visibly agitated after a 10-second penalty was given to him for a collision with Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen was heard on the radio calling the F1 officials ‘idiots’ after being penalized. However, David Croft urged the four-time world champion to control his thoughts and adopt maturity on these matters.
The Dutchman has oftentimes been criticized for using aggressive and colorful language during races. While some appreciate the passion in Verstappen, others simply feel that he struggles to manage his emotions.
