Max Verstappen continued to put forth impressive performances in the 2024 season despite massive struggles with the chassis. However, the struggles in the car meant that Verstappen had to push extra hard to improve track position. Due to this, the Dutchman collided with Oscar Piastri at the Abu Dhabi GP, costing several positions to both drivers.
F1 pundit Martin Brundle opened up regarding his thoughts on the late plunge from Max Verstappen. Brundle pointed out that the Dutchman believed he was fully alongside Oscar Piastri, which wasn’t the case. However, the Englishman reckoned that even Piastri could’ve left some space to avoid the collision. But, the Aussie guessing Verstappen’s dive-bomb in Turn 1 was highly unlikely.
Brundle recalled the late-legend Ayrton Senna‘s quote while downplaying Verstappen’s dive-bomb on Piastri. The pundit highlighted that the Dutchman didn’t really have to make the move on the Aussie to move up the pecking order.
Max Verstappen’s ‘stupid idiots’ comment wasn’t ‘smart or fair’
Max Verstappen was extremely agitated by the ten-second penalty from the governing body. As a result, the Dutchman took to the team radio and called the FIA and the stewards ‘stupid idiots.’ Martin Brundle recalled the comment and highlighted that it wasn’t fair or smart of Verstappen to say these words. However, the 27-year-old calmed down later and apologized to McLaren and Piastri but not to the FIA.
The 2024 season showcased just how competitive Verstappen is even in a struggling chassis. Hence, the Dutchman would be unstoppable if Red Bull could fix the challenger in the coming season.
Milton Keynes will also undergo massive personnel changes ahead of the commencement of the 2025 season. The upcoming campaign will be highly enticing to witness for all the fans and drivers alike due to the massive changes in order.
