Pierre Gasly’s primary passion is racing and he has dedicated most of his life to motorsports, progressing through various racing categories before reaching Formula 1. However, the French driver also has another passion he had even before F1, playing soccer.
Pierre Gasly wanted to become a professional soccer player and play for his favorite team, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, the 28-year-old chose to give up on that dream and pursue racing instead. He chose racing over soccer because he felt a stronger connection to motorsports.
Despite his talent in soccer and being selected for a French academy, Gasly faced difficulties balancing both sports as he grew older. By the age of nine, he was already competing in karting events, which caused him to miss some soccer games.
At one point, his soccer coach put him on the second team as punishment for prioritizing karting. His response was clear, he didn’t want to play for the second team.
That pushed Gasly to fully commit to racing, where he felt more competitive and saw greater potential for success. He still loves soccer and attends various matches of his favorite team.
Pierre Gasly reveals his retirement plan after F1
Despite choosing racing as his career, Pierre Gasly’s passion for football remains strong. The 28-year-old often plays during non-race weekends and F1 breaks because he loves the atmosphere and the coordination with teammates.
Gasly cherishes every moment on the field while playing football. He even imagines himself joining a veterans team or an old men’s club after retiring just to keep enjoying the game he loves.
Gasly had also attended Euro 2024 to support his national team, France, when they faced Portugal. He was there with his girlfriend Kika Gomes. Since Gasly is French and Kika is Portuguese, they supported their respective national teams, showing their national pride while enjoying the match together.
