Ferrari headed into the Mexican GP weekend after securing a 1-2 finish in Austin. Charles Leclerc won the race with Carlos Sainz in second. However, the Spanish driver decided to further improve his team’s tally after a stellar victory in Mexico.

Sainz started from pole position but lost the lead to Max Verstappen at the start. Nevertheless, the Ferrari driver regained first place after an early Safety Car. Carlos Sainz claimed that he loved to have the support of the fans in Mexico City throughout the weekend.

The Spanish driver will leave Ferrari at the end of this season to make way for Lewis Hamilton. As such, the 30-year-old wanted to end his journey at Maranello with one last victory, something he received this weekend. Now, Carlos Sainz will be focusing on enjoying the final four races with the Scuderia.

Carlos Sainz ‘annoyed’ by Max Verstappen at Mexican GP start

Sainz admitted that he was not happy to lose the lead to Verstappen at Turn 1 of the race. However, the Ferrari driver kept his calm as he had nothing to lose. This allowed the 30-year-old to make a confident move on the Dutchman and clinch the lead once again.

I was annoyed I lost the position [to Verstappen] but I said I had nothing to lose, I sent one down the inside from quite far back and I was confident I could make it.

Certainly, the Spanish driver has proved his worth on the grid with another impressive victory. Unfortunately, Carlos Sainz would unlikely be in contention for wins next season. Fans would hope to see Sainz bag a couple more podiums in the last four races of the season.
