Scuderia Ferrari made the biggest signing in F1’s recent history by poaching Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes for 2025. The most successful driver in the sport is all set to join the historic Prancing Horse. However, many in the paddock are unhappy with this decision.

Carlos Sainz has been ousted from Ferrari to make way for the seven-time world champion. The Spanish driver had joined Maranello in 2021 and had been up to pace with Charles Leclerc. Unfortunately, the Scuderia needed to sack Sainz in order to have Hamilton, as Leclerc has always been considered the Italian team’s long-term project.

Sainz was believed to be the ideal partner for Charles Leclerc at Maranello. However, eyebrows were raised as the Scuderia kept delaying a contract extension for the Spaniard last year. Ultimately, Carlos Sainz was caught off-guard when Hamilton confirmed his move to Maranello.

The 30-year-old has stated that he understands the reason for this decision. Ferrari simply could not have said no to Lewis Hamilton considering the Briton’s stature in the racing world. Nevertheless, Sainz did his best in 2024 to make the Italian team know what it was losing by this decision.

Fans and critics alike are unhappy to see Carlos Sainz bear the brunt of this move. The Spanish driver did not even get a seat at a top team following this axe. Sainz will now be forced to fight for points next season right after battling for the Constructors’ title.

Formula 1 is a brutal sport. No matter how Sainz had performed, he was not good enough for Ferrari to block Hamilton’s switch. It is a sad sight to see the Spaniard go to the midfield. However, this is part of the sport and such decisions will be made again by teams in the future. Now, Carlos Sainz must ensure that he does not fall into irrelevancy, something which happened to Valtteri Bottas at Sauber.
