Sergio Perez‘s woeful performances in the 2024 season caused him to part ways with Red Bull despite landing a multi-year contract extension. All the teams have already confirmed their lineups for the coming season as there is no vacancy for Perez. However, Christian Horner suggested a seat in a potential team if the 34-year-old was ready to wait until then.

Formula 1 recently accepted Cadillac-General Motors’ bid to join the paddock as the 11th team despite rejecting Andretti in the past. The team has decided on Ferrari for the power units while the personnel for the team remains unknown. The all-American constructor is highly likely to consider acquiring an experienced driver much like Sergio Perez, alongside an American driver for the team.

Christian Horner noted that he wouldn’t be surprised if Cadillac and General Motors were to consider retaining Perez in their lineup. However, the Mexican driver will have to decide on his future and consider whether he wants to continue in the sport and wait until the team’s entry in 2026.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised even if they went for the experience of somebody like Sergio. If he decides he wants to continue his career in Formula 1.

Christian Horner reassures Red Bull to ‘focus’ on themselves despite Cadillac’s entry

Red Bull’s performance in the 2024 season was dissatisfactory, to say the least, despite Max Verstappen winning his fourth consecutive championship title. Christian Horner reckoned that the addition of an 11th team on the grid didn’t change anything for Red Bull. Hence, Milton Keynes will focus on themselves despite the paddock getting a bit busier with 11th teams on the grid.

Well, it doesn’t change anything really for us. I mean, we just focus on ourselves. Some of the paddocks will be a little busier with an 11th team in 2026, but for us, it’s business as normal. They’ve got their own mountain to climb, and we’re focused on making sure that we’re staying at the top of ours.

Christian Horner noted.

Perez’s future apart from Formula 1 still remains unknown as he hasn’t made any confirmations yet. The 34-year-old still has a few years left in him in terms of racing at the pinnacle of motorsport. Hence, time will tell about the course of action for the Mexican after he faces a disappointing exit from the sport.
