Fernando Alonso is one of the most experienced drivers on the Formula 1 grid currently. The veteran has enjoyed multiple seasons of dominance in the past. Moreover, Alonso has also made his mark in multiple other motorsport categories. The Asturian took a sabbatical from the pinnacle of motorsport while he participated in other categories after 2019.

Ex-team boss Guenther Steiner reckoned that this break from Formula 1 proved to be highly beneficial for Fernando Alonso. Steiner recalled the fact that Alonso won the WEC championship and the Le Mans twice during his break from the sport. The 59-year-old believed that due to this break, the Asturian could fix his ego problem which he wasn’t particularly good at before.

This is just my opinion, but in addition to winning the World Endurance Championship while he was out of Formula 1 and becoming a two-time Le Mans winner, Fernando learned how to make his ego work for him, which perhaps he did not do so well in the years before.

Steiner further lauded Alonso with praises for his racecraft and candor while on the track. The 59-year-old highlighted that the Veteran was quiet, self-assured, and conducted himself perfectly. These traits from the Asturian help him remain brilliant while racing on the track despite being over 43 years old.

He’s quiet, self-assured and conducts himself immaculately, which means he can put all of his emotional and physical energies into being brilliant on the track.

Guenther Steiner added

Fernando Alonso very much like Lewis Hamilton

Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are some of the most highly achieved individuals in Formula 1. Both the drivers were teammates at some point in their careers and clashed heads on multiple occasions. However, despite the differences between the two, Guenther Steiner noted that Alonso was very much like Hamilton in terms of personality and behavior.

He’s [Fernando Alonso] very much like Lewis Hamilton in that respect.

Alonso will continue to race in Formula 1 for two more years after landing a contract extension. The 43-year-old has great hopes of an upturn in performance in the coming season after Adrian Newey’s entry. Aston Martin could put forth a serious improvement in pace in the following season due to the multiple positive changes.
