McLaren driver Oscar Piastri shone brightly during the 2024 F1 season. He produced some magical performances and even amassed the maiden victory of his young career. However, despite this, Piastri has revealed the area which is still a bit of a problem for him.

Lando Norris had the upper hand on Oscar Piastri in the qualifying head-to-head. The Brit on most occasions, was able to get a little bit extra out of his MCL38 in qualifying in comparison to the Australian driver.

[My] qualifying maybe hasn’t really improved as much as I would have hoped. But I think this year, I feel like there’s been good moments in every criteria that I need as a driver. It’s just been not putting them together often enough.

Looking at the reaction of the 23-year-old, it is quite clear that according to him, a bit was left on the table in terms of performance in the 2024 F1 season. Piastri ended his strong campaign in an impressive fourth place in the drivers’ standings with two wins and eight podium finishes.

A lot was made it it by the pundits and with the season being over, Piastri has taken the time to clear his stance on it.

Yes, there was a lot more talk externally than there was internally. Of course, we discussed a lot, but we had to kind of set the rules and the boundaries. But, like you said, the only time it really came into fruition was in Brazil in the sprint race. Like I said, that one instance, really, and there were a lot of questions about, would I help, would I not help? And for me, it was obvious from the start that I would.

Piastri proved himself as one of the standout performers in the 2024 season. Next year, it is a fresh start and given the might of the MCL38, McLaren’s 2025 challenger is expected to fully contend for the world championship from the get-go. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, Piastri and Norris could be regularly seen locking horns with each other in the last year of the ground-effect regulations.
