Lewis Hamilton will be seen repping the iconic Red gear of the Ferrari F1 team in 2025. Most of the pundits have reacted positively to this move since its announcement, but there is one specific pundit who has taken the time to warn the Maranello-based team.
The Ex-F1 driver turned pundit Ralf Schumacher, believes that Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton move could backfire. Hamilton had an extremely tough time alongside George Russell at Mercedes in the recently concluded campaign.
In light of this, Schumacher feels the same could happen at the Fred Vasseur-led outfit.
You’ve already seen how Ferrari shares skyrocketed when Lewis’ switch to Ferrari was announced, but the deal also harbors a huge risk if it doesn’t work out. In my eyes, it’s very big if Lewis doesn’t have a similar driving style to his new team-mate Charles Leclerc. We’ve now seen what that means at Mercedes. George Russell was faster than Hamilton. One thing is clear: Ferrari will not be able to build two different cars. No team can do that.

Looking at the reaction of Schumacher, he has made an extremely valid point. Hamilton had a huge struggle alongside Russell in 2024, barring the two Grand Prix wins. Moreover, the younger Brit brutally outclassed Hamilton in the qualifying head-to-head.

Lewis Hamilton drove alongside George Russell for three years. However, during the 2024 campaign, the former’s handling issues with the W15 quite clearly came to light in comparison to Russell.
Ralf Schumacher feels the 39-year-old’s aging body is making if difficult for him to compete against the young-guns.
A young driver can work better with an engineer. A driver as experienced and successful as Lewis was successful in cars that were largely built according to different rules and happened to suit his driving style. Today, the cars are heavier and slower to drive. There is less mechanical grip. That means you have to change your driving style, especially in the braking zones – and that’s where Lewis lost time to Russell.

Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the 2025 season could prove to be a torrid one for Hamilton and Ferrari. However, the Brit is known for proving his doubters wrong every now and then, and thus, the same could happen next year if the SF-25 is to his liking.
