Max Verstappen has been widely regarded as one of the greatest talents ever in Formula 1. The Dutchman has already won four consecutive world championships and is on the trajectory to win some more. However, Verstappen’s titles fall short in comparison to the legend Michael Schumacher‘s seven triumphs.

Ex-F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve put forth his utter faith in Max Verstappen to equal if not surpass Michael Schumacher‘s (equal to Lewis Hamilton) stupendous feat. Villeneuve reckoned that Verstappen had what it took to match the legend’s titles. Moreover, the Canadian highlighted that the reigning world champion was still hungry and competitive while fighting for race wins.

Max Verstappen certainly has what it takes to match Schumacher’s titles, he is still hungry and competitive, and always aims for victory. It is not brought down.

Villeneuve didn’t hesitate to further talk highly about the chances of Verstappen extending the number of championship wins under his name. The Canadian noted that the Dutchman would continue winning championships as long as he’s provided with the right situation. Moreover, the 53-year-old suggested that Schumacher would’ve won only three if he didn’t join Ferrari back in 1996.

With the right situation, he will always be there to win a championship in the same way Alonso could have had seven championships. Look at how many times he came close with Ferrari. Take Schumacher: he could have had three instead of seven, but he could have had even more.

Max Verstappen has won every championship ‘he could have won’

Max Verstappen’s controversial championship win in the 2021 season was just the beginning of a new chapter in Formula 1. The Dutchman never looked back since then and went on to win three more championships consecutively. Jacques Villeneuve highlighted that some drivers did not have the opportunity to win as many championships as they deserved. However, Verstappen on the other hand won all the championships that he could have achieved in the sport.

Sometimes it’s close, and there are some drivers out there who don’t have the number of championships they probably deserved with their talent. Max has won every championship he could have won. So far, he hasn’t lost a single one.

The 2024 season proved the difference between Verstappen’s racecraft and the rivals. The Dutchman could continue his dominant run of championship wins if Red Bull fixes its challenger’s performance issues. 2025 would be crucial for the team as the grid heads into the final edition of the exciting ground-effect era.
