Iga Swiatek, though she was the most successful women’s player in terms of trophies won in 2024, had lifted just one Major, the French Open. Swiatek has established herself as a dominating force on clay and took home three titles on the surface in 2024.
As per Andrea Petkovic, Swiatek could struggle at the Australian Open. Petkovic said Swiatek is a player who knows what she needs to improve and she works on those areas continuously. She thought 2025 would be the year when Swiatek would be playing impressive tennis in Melbourne but she now thinks differently.
Swiatek tested positive for a banned heart medication trimetazidine in August and was provisionally suspended, missing three tournaments. The three-week provisional suspension was a part of the one-month ban which she has served. Because she failed the drug test and didn’t have to deal with a harsh punishment, she was criticized by her colleagues as well as fans.
Andrea Petkovic expecting great results from Iga Swiatek in 2025
Iga Swiatek lost her World No.1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka and didn’t play her best tennis after the French Open. Despite thinking that Swiatek might struggle at the 2025 Australian Open, Andrea Petkovic is convinced that once the Pole moves on from the doping controversy, she will get back to the winning ways and win more titles.
Stubbs however thinks it’s the fast surface in Melbourne that troubles Swiatek. The World No.2 has never reached the final of the Australian Open and performed her best when she progressed to the semifinals in 2022.
In 2024, she was knocked out of the tournament after losing to Linda Noskova in three sets in the third round. The 2022 US Open champion however never reached the semifinals at the Wimbledon and was eliminated from the third round of the tournament in 2024.
