Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have already established themselves as two of the best players but both of them are going to get huge challenges from another youngster, as per former player John Isner. The youngster is Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

The 21-year-old has turned pro in 2021 and has lifted two titles (both in 2024). He also reached his career-best ranking of No.30 in 2024 but currently stands in the 31st position. Isner, who retired in 2023, and had practiced with him said if Perricard stays healthy, then he can challenge the big players of the game.

He warmed me up at the French Open. I just remember thinking his backhand was really bad but he could crack the ball on the forehand and his serve was obviously huge. It’s not actually that surprising for me that he did what he did [in the] last year. If he stays healthy, he’s going to be a nightmare for a lot of players in the years to come.

Currently, Sinner and Alcaraz are dominating the tennis world not to forget Alexander Zverev who has reached the Grand Slam finals. Perricard has never met Sinner but locked horns with Alcaraz in the Round of 32 of the 2024 Beijing Open.

John Isner surprised why Jannik Sinner won ATP fan favorite award

Jannik Sinner won eight titles in 2024, including his two Grand Slam titles. But he could not enjoy his achievements to the fullest due to the doping controversy. As the tennis world was divided between those who backed him and those who criticized him, John Isner expressed his surprise when the 23-year-old won the ATP fan favorite award.

I am a little bit surprised. Because you know he was, it wasn’t of course his personality but his 2024 was a bit polarizing because I know some stuff went with him and went on with that positive test that he was cleared of. So a lot of people were, you know, not fans of that- Nick Kyrgios being one of them.

John Isner said on the Nothing Major podcast

Sinner tested positive for clostebol but was not handed a harsh punishment and because of this many, including Kyrgios have been making scathing remarks on him, as they demanded a lengthy ban on the Italian. Sinner is also waiting for the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
