Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have spearheaded the ascendancy of the new generation in tennis. The pair dominated the ATP this season winning 12 titles in total. With the hopes to continue with that next year, they look set to be opposed by other players. In fact, Italian star Flavio Cobolli has said that he looks forward to challenging them in 2025.
Sinner and Alcaraz were absolutely brilliant on the court in 2024. The former won the Australian Open and the US Open, and ended the year with an excellent 73-6 win-loss record. He also claimed three ATP Masters 1000 title and finished the year as World No. 1. Alcaraz, on the other hand, claimed the French Open and Wimbledon Championship.
However, with the 2025 season drawing nigh, both players have recently been engaged in training and practice. Alcaraz and Sinner are expected to open their next season campaign at the Australian Open, as they won’t feature in any warm-up event. Nonetheless, after their dominance last season, they have become the target of several players on Tour.
In a recent interview, Flavio Cobolli, who is Sinner’s fellow compatriot, said that he is aiming to close the gap between himself and the two stars. He added that despite everything he respects them for what they have achieved.
Sinner will be heading into the Australian Open as the defending champion, while Alcaraz will be seeking to win it and become the youngest player to win a Career Slam. The Grand Slam event starts on January 12.
Flavio Cobolli looks forward to continuing with his 2024 form next season
Flavio Cobolli has gone from being an irregularly talented player to truly consolidating his name in the ATP elite. Entering into the 2024 season, the Italian had never climbed past the World No. 95 in the ATP rankings.
But this season, he reached his career-high World No. 30 in September. He also reached his first ATP Tour final in Washington DC.
Ahead of the 2025 season, the Italian star is looking forward to establishing himself as one of the stars to win titles. During the aforementioned interview, he said he desires to grow and consolidate his 2024 efforts.
Cobolli will open his 2025 campaign at the United Cup in Perth. The Italian reached the third round of the Australian Open in January for the first time in his career. He will hope to build on that next year.
