The Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, witnessed one of the grueling striking-oriented fights in recent months. UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira took on underdog Khalil Rountree in the headliner bout at UFC 307. Upon everyone’s expectations, ‘Poatan’ comfortably defeated his opponent. As such, he even opened up Rountree’s, leaving everyone stunned.

Interestingly, before the fight, both fighters agreed to certain conditions. Specifically, Rountree and Pereira agreed to a no-takedown pact, which was clearly evident during their fight. Both fighters remained standing the entire time. In the early rounds, the underdog, Rountree, confidently threw his combinations of hooks and jabs.

Meanwhile, Pereira was primarily focused on landing precise strikes. As the rounds progressed, the intensity of the exchanges increased, with Poatan even catching Rountree off guard. The light heavyweight champion consistently battered the challenger with his powerful left hook. In the 4th round, Rountree couldn’t withstand further damage and stopped fighting, ultimately giving Pereira a TKO victory.

The victory marked Alex Pereira’s third consecutive title defense win and his fifth consecutive victory in the promotion. He is the first since Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier to achieve this feat. That being said, it remains to be seen who Poatan will fight next. As for Rountree, he missed out on capitalizing on one of his biggest chances in his UFC career.
