Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his UFC middleweight title for the first time. The champ submitted Israel Adesanya in the fourth round in a grueling match-up at UFC 305. However, right after the win, he has now found himself in the crosshair of the light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira.Â
Du Plessis versus Israel Adesanya had all the fight fans on their toes given the animosity and trash-talking surrounding the fight. However, DDP took the win by submitting Israel Adesanya in the fourth round by a rear naked choke. Surprisingly, this caught the attention of the former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira. The âPoatan’ shared a warning towards Du Plessis while talking about a potential middleweight return.Â

Pereira made his UFC debut in the 185 lbs division to pursue his long-going rivalry with Israel Adesanya. The Brazilian shocked the world by beating Izzy on his first try and taking the belt. However, in the rematch he got knocked out by Adesanya, ending his middleweight reign. Later, the fighter decided to move up and continue his dominance in the light heavyweight division.Â
As of now, his reign as the light heavyweight champion is going well with two title defenses. On top of it, Pereira is already scheduled for his upcoming fight with Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307. While Pereira is interested in coming down, according to DDP, that won’t be necessary.

In the past, Dricus Du Plessis has talked about potentially moving up to the light heavyweight division. After learning about Alex Pereira‘s plans to come down, DDP suggested that he will move up instead.

Du Plessis is a huge fighter and it won’t be that hard for him to move up a weight class. However, before that he has to do a lot of work in the middleweight division. According to fans, a few more title defenses are a must before any champion decides to move up. On top of it, Dana White has also planned a South African PPV event with DDP as the main event star.
