Brazilian fighter Alex “Poatan” Pereira has taken the UFC by storm after his debut in 2021. Pereira was born in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, on July 7, 1987. At the age of 16, he started his kickboxing training. With over two decades of experience, Poatan is a dangerous striker with a variety of knockout techniques. The left hook always finds a way through.

Alex Pereira won his first professional kickboxing fight in 2009. He went on to win the Glory middleweight championship in 2015. Pereira also won the Glory Light Heavyweight championship in 2017. Soon, he chose MMA as the next destination to conquer. Poatan made his UFC debut in 2021 and made an instant impact.

He knocked out Andreas Michailidis in his debut and defeated Bruno Silva and Sean Strickland with ease. Since then, he has won middleweight and light heavyweight titles in the UFC. Pereira has a decent record of 12 wins and two losses in his MMA career. He has defeated contenders in the UFC, such as Sean Strickland and Bruno Silva. His first loss came against Quemuel Ottoni at Jungle Fight, where he was submitted via rear naked choke.

His second and most recent loss was against Adesanya at UFC 287, resulting in the loss of his middleweight title. After the loss, Poatan moved to the light heavyweight division. He defeated Jan Blachowicz via split decision at UFC 291 to become the No. 1 contender for the title.

The Brazilian star won the title at UFC 295 after an intense fight against Jiri Prochazka following one of the greatest face-offs in history. In April of 2024, Pereira faced former champion Jamahal Hill for his first title defense. The dangerous striker brutally knocked Hill out in the first round.

Two months later, Pereira got the offer to headline UFC 303 on two weeks’ notice against Prochazka. The Brazilian superstar outclassed the Czech fighter and knocked him out in the second round. His most recent fight came against Khalil Rountree, where he brutalized his opponent and won via TKO at UFC 307.
