In recent years, Russell Westbrook has been the target of a lot of criticism, particularly when he was playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been booed a lot in his career by rival fans, no matter which team he played for. Westbrook recently made an intriguing revelation regarding this matter and compared himself with the late Kobe Bryant.

In the offseason, Westbrook inked a two-year contract with the Denver Nuggets, making it his sixth NBA team in his 17-year career. Given that, he opened up on the criticism and boos he is about to face in the 2024-25 NBA season. Westbrook said that he takes the jeers as a sign of respect.

Over the course of my career, I’ve been booed and all that stuff everywhere else, but I take it as a sign of respect just like the late Kobe Bryant… If people don’t say anything, then you should be worried

The Oklahoma City Thunder, the team that Westbrook spent most of his 16-year career playing for, will play against the Nuggets away in the opening game of the 2024–25 season. The Thunder selected him fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft and he stayed with them until the conclusion of the 2018–19 campaign. It will be intriguing to watch how the Thunder fans treat him in the opening match of the new season.

Gilbert Arenas gave Russell Westbrook his flowers amidst heavy criticism

Russell Westbrook is still one of the most hated players in NBA history, even if he was once named the MVP. His abilities have always been criticized by rival supporters. To add to this, Westbrook’s recent trade to the Denver Nuggets has made things even worse for him. However, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas stood up to support Westbrook and gave a few encouraging remarks.

It was like they were trying to discredit his triple-double. These same people are voting, they got you legacy in their hands. So if you don’t kiss their a**es they sit there and f**k with your legacy.

Gilbert Arenas said

Westbrook achieved a historic milestone by becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, despite accusations of stat-padding. During his time with the Thunder, he was a top-notch point guard who was known for his powerful drives.

The 35-year-old also became only the second player in NBA history to rack up a triple-double in a season. It will be interesting to watch how Westbrook will perform with the Nuggets in the 2024-25 NBA season.
