Gilbert Arenas Show debate over who is better, Harden vs Curry

Gilbert Arenas‘s show has become part of a ritual for NBA fans now. While NBA viewership is declining, the Gilbert Arenas Show is gaining traction. Featuring a panel of ex-basketball players who have competed both in the NBA and overseas, the show provides fans with deep insights into the inner workings of the league.

In the most recent episode of the show, one of the panelists, Rashad McCants, spoke about how Stephen Curry is more of a catch and shoot guy instead of taking on guys one-on-one, pointing out how he mostly shoots off the dribble, but never against another point guards of his size.

Here’s what he has to say about the best three-point shooter to have ever played in the NBA.

Think about this: Stephen Curry doesn’t get his shot off against the point guard that’s in front of him. Switch, big, bom bom bom, get my sh*t off. Every time that happens, you see Steph doesn’t want that one-on-one matchup with that point guard because it’s harder for him to get his sh*t off on him. James [Harden] is better one-on-one with a guy his size because this is what he does. And if you switch him on a big, it’s even worse.

Without reading too much between the lines, what McCants meant to say was that James Harden is a better point guard than Stephen Curry, a sentiment Gilbert Arenas agreed with. Despite their resumes suggesting otherwise, the show’s hosts nodded in consensus. Although they usually provide intriguing and thought-provoking takes on the show, this particular assertion was off the mark.

Interestingly, Los Angeles Clippers’ point guard James Harden seems to think differently. Despite being one of the most elite shooters in the league and sitting second on the all-time three-pointers made list, Harden believes no one is touching Chef Curry’s record. He is convinced it will remain unbroken.

James Harden is confident that no one can catch Stephen Curry on 3-point list

James Harden and Stephen Curry entered the league together after being drafted in the 2009 NBA Draft. However, the disparity between their shooting statistics is staggering. Despite playing 100 fewer games than Harden, Curry has made over 800 more three-point shots than him.

Acknowledging Curry’s out of this world shooting ability, Harden shared his thoughts with the media:

I’m one of the most confident guys that we have in this league. But no. I probably won’t catch Steph. I don’t think anybody will… He can shoot the shit outta the ball.

James Harden said on Stephen Curry

While the debate over who is the better point guard continues, the stats tell their own story. Stephen Curry, with over 3,839 career three-pointers (and counting), has redefined what it means to be a sharpshooter in the NBA.

In contrast, James Harden, with approximately 3,021 career three-pointers, remains an exceptional scorer and playmaker in his own right. Their legacies are cemented not just in the numbers they have put up but in how they have impacted the game. From Harden’s step-back threes to Curry’s mid-court shots, they have earned their fans in their own way.
